Beach clean-ups
Help Keep Ocean Beach Clean!
The San Francisco chapter's Beach Clean-Up Program is one of the most successful of its kind. As a recipient of the Surfrider Foundation's distinguished " Clean Beach Award ," this program has set the standard for other Surfrider chapters around the country, and increasingly, the world.
Our success is due largely to the incredible volunteer participation by chapter members and other environmentally conscience individuals and organizations who make caring for Ocean Beach a priority. Although we have come to expect regular turnouts at our monthly beach clean-ups, VOLUNTEERS are our greatest asset ; and we need as much assistance as we can get. Please work with us to make Ocean Beach the best it can be, and attend any of the scheduled beach clean-ups listed below.
We have recently partnered with the National Park Service, The Parks Conservancy, The Ocean Beach Foundation, and Burners without Borders, to improve the quality and scope of beach clean-up services at Ocean Beach, particularly in conjunction with the new NPS Bonfire Policy. These partnerships represents a significant expansion of our Beach Clean-Up Program, and we need more volunteers to help coordinate additional beach clean-ups and participate in them. If you are interested in taking on a more involved role with the San Francisco Surfrider Foundation Chapter Beach Clean-up Program, please contact the Beach Clean-up Coordinator, Barbara Lau .

Important Information:
- All regularly scheduled beach clean-ups at Ocean Beach take place on designated Sundays, from 10am to noon.
- Surfrider will provide all necessary materials and tools , including eco-friendly garbage bags, disposable gloves, rakes, scoopers, grabbers and sieves.
- - We recommend that you dress appropriately. The weather can change rapidly at Ocean Beach, and layers that can be donned or shed accordinly are recommended. Open-toed shoes are discouraged.
- We encourage groups larger than ten volunteers to give us a heads up if they plan to attend a beach clean-up. We want to be sure to bring enough supplies. However, advance notification is not required for groups of any size!
- Surfrider also donates gloves and bags to groups and individuals who would like organize their own clean-up events, and can provide additional administrative assistance. Please contact the Beach Clean-up Coordinator, Melissa Leggett for more information.
Special thanks to Don the Glove, Inc. for contributing vinyl gloves for our Beach Clean-ups.
